♬ Snails on my face: A Not-So-Korean skin care post – Part 2

This post pertains to: Consumerism

So it’s been a little over a year that I’ve been into skin care (aka Asian Beauty subreddit) and I’ve learned several things, I’ve been through a lot of products and I’ve at least found things I can call “HG” (holy grail) that I will repurchase over and over. I’m still trying to formulate a good routine sadly but these products are tried and true.

  • Cosrx Advanced Snail Mucin 96 Power Essence (100 ml) – This shit is the bomb. It heals my acne so well and it’s really easy to spread, it’s not sticky or anything. I mix one pump with 2 drops of Stratia Rewind.
  • Stratia Rewind (30 ml)– It’s very, very subtle effect. However, when I stopped using it thinking it wasn’t working, I noticed that the lines in my face became more prominent. But I really like the effect it gives and it’s moisturizing too.
  • ZYMOGEN Houttuynia Cordata Ferment Serum (105ml) – This serum really helps keep my acne at bay. I stopped using it once and I broke out. Then another time I dropped and broke the bottle, my skin was horrible after that until I replaced it. It’s a ferment though so people susceptible to fungal acne can’t use it.
  • SCINIC Honey All in One Ampoule (250ml): This is AWESOME! It totally brightened some PIH that was bugging me for the past several months, in no time. And I only have to use a little. Everyone says it lasts forever, I can believe it.
  • Stratia Liquid Gold (60ml) – I will never not buy it. It’s perfect. Lightens up PIH and moisturizes so well.
  • Shiseido Senka Aging Care UV Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ – Not greasy, doesn’t smell, easy to apply. It’s just simply good.

Other things I’m trying atm that I either don’t like/am unsure of:

  • Stratia Fortify: Honestly I only bought this cuz there was a Black Friday sale and I like Stratia products so I thought I’d try it. I don’t really know if it does anything for me. Its main purposes is to moisturize, anti-inflammatory and reverse UV damage. I currently mix 2 drops of it with my Zymogen serum + tea trea oil. It’s also the worst smelling stuff I’ve ever had in my life, you get used to it after a while though. Will Not Repurchase
  • Kikumasamune High Moist Lotion: I fucking HATE this shit. I bought it because my bottle of Hada Labo Gokujyun was running out and I decided to try the other toner that people rave about. However this was a mistake as I really really hate this. It’s extremely watery and after you apply it it’s sticky. I can’t stand it! It has a pump and it can get messy and spray product too. Will Not Repurchase
  • SCINIC Honey All in One Ampoule 250ml: I bought this for Christmas but I haven’t been able to use it yet since I’m trying other products out. I like honey products so hopefully it helps. It is good for moisturizing + whitening. HG now!
  • Cosrx BHA / Cosrx AHA: I ran out of my previous BHA and AHA (Paula’s choice) so I figured I would try Cosrx. I have been trying to purge a shitton of closed comedones that Holy Snails Shark Sauce left me with. So far, I have indeed been purging them slowly; at least it’s working in that regard, but I still have a lot left over.
  • Cosrx Overnight Honey Mask / Cosrx Wash Off Rice Mask: Sleeping masks don’t seem to do anything for me so I won’t get any more. Will Not Repurchase
  • Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask: It’s overpriced chapstick. Will Not Repurchase
  • MIZON All in One Snail Cream: Yeah so this is a product I purchased the first time I did AB and was using it wrong. I don’t know why I want to try it again after being unsure if it did anything for me, I guess I want to just give it a second try since I fucked up the first time. So far unsure if anything’s different. I haven’t particularly noticed anything. It is rather cheap, but I’ve only used it for a month and I used up half of it already. I think I get better usage from Cosrx Snail 96 Essence. Will Not Repurchase

So, in short, my current routine is:

AM

  • Wash face with water
  • MIZON All in One Snail Cream
  • Kikumasamune High Moist Lotion
  • Cosrx 96 Snail Essence + Stratia Rewind
  • Zymogen Houttuynia Cordata Ferment Serum + Tea Tree Oil + SCINIC Honey Ampoule
  • Stratia Liquid Gold + Cerave Moisturizer
  • Shiseido sunscreen

PM

  • The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Oil
  • Cerave Foaming Cleanser
  • KLAIRS Supple Toner
  • Cosrx BHA & AHA (20 min wait in between)
  • MIZON All in One Snail Cream
  • Kikumasamune High Moist Lotion
  • Cosrx 96 Snail Essence + Stratia Rewind
  • Zymogen Houttuynia Cordata Ferment Serum + Stratia Fortify + Tea Tree Oil + SCINIC Honey Ampoule
  • Stratia Liquid Gold + Cerave Moisturizer

It seems like a lot of products I know! But it works for me right now.

♬ Snails on my face: A Korean skin care post

This post pertains to: Consumerism

It’s been a year since I posted, mostly because I’ve had nothing to write about in a whole year.

I have something now, and it’s about Korean skin care. There apparently has been a big craze over Korean skin care with the rise of famous Kpop stars becoming more prominent in English-speaking countries and whatnot, and think that looking at their porcelain plastic surgery-laden skin fortells that Korean skin products are miracles.

As you might know, I have dealt with acne since I was 11 and it has never gone away, ever. So my skin is horrible and fucked up.

During Black Friday, I went on a binge on Amazon and bought a shitton of stuff and came upon Korean skin care as one of their “new finds” categories. I’m not sure what made me do it, but I figured, hey why not, and bought a few things. I was very confused on what to get because I didn’t look at any kind of list or anything (like here), I literally went off of people’s reviews of products on what to get. So, the general guideline is 10 steps, but I have like…five. Cause I didn’t read the memo.

I’ve been using this stuff for about a month and a half (roughly half a month for my cleanser, which arrived later) and I THINK it’s helping. I mean, I definitely see a huge difference in the reduction of blemishes, redness, etc. on my face before and after I use it in the morning. And, it clears up most of my acne in a couple days. But I’m going to write a list of what I have so far.

Korean 10-step skin care list

  1. Oil-based cleanser: apparently you only need this if you use makeup. I didn’t know there were two types of cleanser for this so I just got one, thankfully it was the right one, water based.
  2. Water-based cleanser: I use Laneige Pore Deep Clearing Foam, it lathers so well and feels soooo nice to put on your skin. It has a very neutral smell and washes off easily. It’s probably my favourite part of all of this.
  3. Exfoliation: nothing korean here, just Burt’s Bees Peach & Willowbark Deep Pore Scrub. I actually have two exfoliators, one is a generic brand and then this brand one. I don’t really like this one as it doesn’t really spread easily and you have to use a shitton just to cover your face. Granted, you are only supposed to do this about two times a week. But it just seems wasteful. I think I will try a Korean one when this runs out.
  4. Toner: Etude House 10-in-1 House Wonder Pore Freshener off a recommendation from a review. I definitely notice my pores being smaller afterwards.
  5. Essence: This part confuses me because I don’t really see any effect or understand what essence does, but it’s apparently a very vital step in the skin care regimen. I use TONYMOLY Intense Care Galactomyces Lite Essence and it’s a watery substance you wipe on your face. if I understand it correctly, it seems to be like primer in terms of make up, in that you put it on your face first so that the rest of the stuff in your regimen is effective.  However, while trying to find a serum for the next step, I stumbled upon BENTON Snail Bee High Content Essence which I bought to eventually replace TONYMOLY’s when it runs out…or maybe sooner. People were raving about it reducing blemishes and whatnot so I figured I’d try, I also will admit I did buy it because it had snail AND bee in the title.
  6. Serums, boosters and ampoules: I did not realize it but when I bought tea tree oil it actually would count as this step. I did it wrong the first few weeks; so you’re supposed to dilute the oil with a carrier oil which I didn’t do. But now I dilute it with almond oil and that counts for this step. However, I recently bought  Skin Food Peach Sake Pore Serum and am waiting it to arrive in February (long ass time to wait but hey, it was free shipping). From what I read it reduces pore sizes and controls sebum which is great for me because my skin is oily as SHIT. we’ll see how it goes.
  7. Sheet Mask: Apparently this step is important too but I find it a waste of money… you can buy a pack of 5 sheet masks for around $15 and probably totals at $20-$22 with shipping, that’s spending $22 every 5 weeks to put it on your face. Most of the previously listed products I bought were around $15-$20 each and they are only about 3/4ths the way done after ~6 weeks. I don’t feel like it is worth it for these sheet masks.
  8. Eye Cream: I don’t like the bags under my eyes but most of the time they are covered by my glasses so I won’t bother with this.
  9. Moisturizer: I currently use MIZON All in One Snail Repair Cream. I’m kinda meh about it. I’m not sure if it’s me getting the almond oil mixed up with the consistency of the moisturizer but sometimes my face will still dry out after applying this cream. Furthermore there doesn’t really seem to be much in there so I feel like I have to use it sparingly.
  10. Sun protection: I didn’t get this initialyl because I don’t go out in the sun like the NEET I am but I realized that I walk my dog and am therefore getting sunlight, so I bought something cheap, MISSHA All-Around Safe Block Soft Finish Sun Milk SPF50. I haven’t received it yet so we will see if it helps.

Hopefully I will see a difference with the new products and my money hasn’t been entirely wasteful.

♬ Charms

This post pertains to: ArtConsumerismThoughts

Many moons ago (in May) I ordered a sample pack of charms from Zap! Creatives, as I was interested in getting into selling merchandise at cons. Approximately 50 years later, I finally got the pack. Turns out I had ordered it right when they were getting new printers so I had to wait a thousand years to get my shit.

charmpack

They have various different charm finishes but the one I like the most are still the clear ones (bottom left). I guess the coloured backing ones could look nice if you have a complimentary colour scheme (or I was thinking I could use characters based on their associated colour, like Echan yellow, Magnus pink, Alif purple, etc.), but the clear just looks overall the cleanest and feels good. They have wood ones, I touched it and instantly recoiled. I hate the feeling of wood. However, the wood ones are the cheapest ones from the site, so that is something to consider.

Making/selling charms is a pretty interesting thing. A lot of the time I see them priced at $8-$10, for a tiny 2 inch thing. I personally wouldn’t buy that, no matter if it was my favourite anime character or not. It is extremely pricey to make them, too. Since Zap! is an English company, it’s even more pricey to convert and ship across the pond – the cost for 25 2-inch clear double-sided charms is about $99. Not taking shipping into account, it comes out to $4 per charm. Yikes!!!

That stuff is really expensive, so I’d have to come up with something that would really sell. I don’t know what that would be. Some popular timeless character. Maybe a pokemon? Who knows.
